Dyslexia is a disorder that involves difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence.

Symptoms include: 

• Difficulty with decoding skills

• Accurate word recognition

• Poor spelling  

• Difficulty with reading comprehension.

Speech Therapy Methods: 

• Multi-sensory approach that includes the use of visual, auditory, and tactile cues.

• Instruction focuses on teaching sound symbol relationships, ability to read and recall sounds, decoding skills, encoding skills, segmenting, and blending syllables.

• Instruction progresses from teaching individual sounds to syllables, words with increasing length, sentences and questions to advanced sentence structures.
